Acupuncture and Preventative Medicine
The earliest existing text on acupuncture, the Huang Di Nei Jing, written circa 200 BC, mentioned preventative medicine. It stated:
“the sages will prevent disease rather than cure it, maintain order rather than correcting disorder, which is the ultimate principle of wisdom. To cure a disease with medicines or to correct a disorder is like digging a well when one feels thirsty or making weapons when the war has broken out – which is too late to do much good.”
Why Choose Acupuncture?
Acupuncture can help a wide range of health problems
Most people have heard of acupuncture but at the same time most people have no idea why they would choose acupuncture as a medical therapy. It is unfortunate that people often try acupuncture as a last resort. Here are some reasons why you should consider trying acupuncture first.
Acupuncture is very effective for pain relief. Pain is one of the most common medical problems that people frequently face. Pain can be mild or severe, annoying or crippling, and can last a few seconds or a life-time. Fortunately for those with pain-related problems acupuncture can often help. Acupuncture works by increasing blood flow and stimulating the production of pain relieving endorphins in the body.
Acupuncture can be used for any type of pain problem, such as neck, shoulder, and back pain, hip and leg pain, foot or hand pain, or headache pain. Muscular pain from work, sports injuries or car accidents, nerve pain, arthritis pain, and headache pain all respond to acupuncture. At Redding Acupuncture Health Care we specialize in treating pain problems.
Acupuncture is a totally natural method that is completely safe. Acupuncture stimulates a healing response within the body so the body can repair itself.
No harmful side-effects. When compared to using prescription drugs that usually have many side effects acupuncture is a smart choice. Keep in mind that pain relievers temporarily relieve pain. They do not make you better. The goal of acupuncture is to relieve pain by making you better. We try to heal the body - not mask the symptoms.
Acupuncture is also good for other problems such as quitting smoking or alcohol, insomnia, digestive problems, and problems with the female reproductive system. The list of conditions acupuncture can treat is too long to list here. If you have a problem not mentioned we still may be able to help. Please call and ask us if acupuncture can help your problem. We'll be glad to answer your question.
Keep in mind that acupuncture is not a "magic cure" and that you usually will need a series of treatments depending on the type of health problem you have and how long you have had it. When you come in for an initial visit we can tell you the number of treatments you may need to effectively treat your condition. We also offer free consultations if you need more information before deciding on treatment.
